The New England Section of the American Urological Association (NEAUA) is piloting a medical student mentorship program at its 2024 Annual Meeting in Providence, Rhode Island – the NEAUA FUTURE (Future Urology Talent from Under-Represented Entities) in Urology Program. Our DEI Committee asked we reach out to you to request you share this opportunity with your medical students who may have an interest in the field.
The goal of the program is to expose and engage rising 2nd and 3rd year MD and DO medical students from diverse backgrounds in the field of Urology with the ultimate aim of developing a diverse pipeline of future urologists. The program will provide opportunities for students to network with peer students, residents, and practicing urologists; be exposed to urologic research and clinical practice presentations; develop a meaningful mentorship relationship; and cultivate an interest in Urology. Each mentee will be paired with at last one (1) Active member Mentor to mentor them throughout the 2024 Annual Meeting in Providence.
Six (6) medical students, one from each state in New England (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont), will be selected to participate based on their applications, receive $1,500 for travel and lodging support, and complimentary NEAUA Annual Meeting registration.
To be considered for participation in the NEAUA FUTURE program, rising 2nd and 3rd year medical students should apply at the application below and submit a brief statement of interest to include self-identification as an underrepresented minority in medicine, their current exposure to Urology, and their level of access to a network of urologic mentors at their institution. The Section DEI Committee will review each statement of interest and select the medical students to participate.
