“When I attended the BSCP Skills Workshop for the first time, I was given something I desperately needed: hope. Without BSCP, I do not know whether I would still be on the path toward becoming a physician.”

Born in Boston to immigrant parents from Uganda, Ivy is a first-generation college student who began at Bunker Hill Community College and is now getting her bachelor’s degree at Northeastern.

Her interest in medicine was sparked by her grandmother who was a midwife in Uganda. Life circumstances had upended Ivy’s dream of becoming a doctor when she was introduced to BSCP in 2022.

Through mentorship and a community of people invested in her success, Ivy’s vision came back into focus. Interning at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Massachusetts State House, she has learned how science, compassion, and leadership come together to make lasting impact.

Ivy’s ultimate goal is becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
