“Because of BSCP, I never believed I couldn’t achieve my goals. Even when I struggled, I never thought I should stop because BSCP instilled in me the unwavering belief that I belong in STEM.”
Born in Boston to an immigrant family, Michelle grew up helping in her family’s restaurant while realizing her true passion for the natural world. This curiosity inspired her undergraduate studies at Boston College where Michelle earned a bachelor’s degree in biology. She flourished in the lab, spending two years researching celiac disease before working as a research associate at Active Site.
Today, Michelle is a Ph.D. student in the Cell and Molecular Biology program at the University of Houston. Drawing from her experiences as a first-generation, low-income student, she aspires to lead innovative research while helping demystify the “unwritten rules” of academia for the next generation of scientists liker her.
