Volunteer Opportunities
Hundreds of professionals from across the sector volunteer with BSCP. Your involvement is what enables us to help more than 2,500 young people each year.
Student Advisors
Advisors are matched with students based on interests and degree path with sessions offered to active BSCP students twice per year. Students are typically looking for academic and career advice. Most advising is done remotely though we have in-person sessions biennially as part of our annual student conference. A doctoral degree is required to be an advisor.
Resume/CV Reviewers
BSCP is always looking for volunteers willing to provide feedback to students and fellows on their resumes, CVs, and other materials in advance of applying to job opportunities or academic programs. If you are involved in the hiring process as part your job, you are eligible to serve as a resume reviewer.
Panelists
Experts in their field serve as volunteer panelists for both in-person and virtual events throughout the year. This includes conferences for students, fellows, and alumni; workshops for high school and college students; and our webinar series on career development. Past topics have included writing resumes and cover letters, interviewing and negotiation skills, applying to college and grad school, entrepreneurship, careers in biomedicine, managing burnout, and more.
Table Hosts
Information tables are available for companies and organizations interested in connecting with students at our biennial student conference and annual internship fair. Groups offering resources, internships, fellowships, and job opportunities relevant to biomedical students are welcome to a table at our conference. And anyone with internships available in the biomedical field are eligible to host a table at our internship fair.
“Lunch & Learn” Hosts
BSCP welcomes organizational partners interested in hosting a “Lunch & Learn” webinar for students, fellows, and alumni. These virtual events provide attendees the opportunity to learn about your organization and the types of positions available for all levels of degrees, as well as understand the different career paths at your company.
Poster Judges
Volunteer judges, working in teams of two, help determine the top presenters at our annual science symposium. Each team is assigned up to six abstracts within a chosen scientific discipline and speaks with student researchers about their findings. You then gather with other judges to make the final selections. A doctoral degree is required to be a judge.
Abstract Reviewers
Prior to applying to the annual science symposium, students and fellows are given the opportunity to receive feedback on their research abstracts. Reviewers listen to students give a 2- to 4-minute pitch and then offer feedback. A doctoral degree is required to serve in this role.
